I love spring in London. The sun is starting to make a bit more of an appearance, which means my friends and I are leaving our caves of rooms to meet outside. Although I am feeling lighter now that we are coming into spring, winter was a difficult time, as it restricted me from meeting up with friends as often, due to the freezing cold.
Socialising is scientifically proven to improve our mental health, however we have to understand socialising is a luxury. While data on social isolation is more limited, it is estimated to affect up to 1 in 3 older adults and 1 in 4 adolescents. For many groups, socialising can be challenging. Particularly those with disabilities, refugees or migrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, and indigenous groups and ethnic minorities. These groups may face discrimination or additional barriers that make social connection harder.
The pirkx counsellor is a tool I have used to guide me through difficult and isolating times. With pirkx, you get 6 structured counselling sessions that can be scheduled at a time of your choosing. The counsellors are professional and keep conversations completely confidential. It is one of my favourite pirkx benefits, as it is accessible to anyone who may be facing a challenging time, or just those in need of some company.
We should never feel ashamed to admit we are lonely, or that we are struggling. Opening up isn't easy, which is why pirkx has the 24/7 counsellor to guide you.
